About Me!

Hey everyone! My name is Emily Tan and I’m a 4th year Cell and Molecular Biology major with a minor in Global Health. I grew up in Queens, New York, where I developed a love for trying new cuisines having been surrounded by multitude of cultures from a young age. One of my 2024 resolutions is to explore restaurants outside of the neighborhoods around campus. So far this year, I’ve been to Pho Le in Dorchester, where I got bún bò Huế, and Tonino in Jamaica Plain, where I got a bunch of pizzas, pastas, and a tiramisu to share. I highly recommend both and I plan to try JP Roti Shop in Dorchester next!

Speaking of 2024 resolutions, I’ve never been a Resolution Person, but I set a couple on New Year’s after a weeklong post-graduation crisis where I decided something(s) in my life had to change:
1) Run a half-marathon (at the end of September!)
2) Learn how to swim again (for the 3rd time because I keep forgetting)
3) Less takeout, more home cooking
4) Budget better (see #3)

And #5, though I’m graduating this May, this is actually my first time getting involved with the Asian American Center (AAC) at Northeastern, so I want to meet new people and participate more in the Asian American community here on campus.

I’m excited for this last semester and can’t wait to see what’s in store for me!

  • Hi Emily: Thank you for this thoughtful blog post! One of my favorite local spots around here is Puro Ceviche bar on Newbury – my best friend from college is Peruvian and we’d go there when she was feeling a little homesick.

Good luck on your resolutions and on your semester! Budgeting better is a big one for me too… we got this!
