The 5 Love Languages Test

In my last blog post, I wrote about introversion and extroversion and how the understanding of these characteristics aid in understanding the people around you. As most of you probably know, the MBTI Personality Test is able to measure your introversion and extroversion to show where on the spectrum you lie. There are a multitude of other similar tests on the web that are open to any individual to take, one being the Love Languages Test. If you’ve never heard of it before, the Love Language Test is a useful tool to find out the way in which you wish to give and receive love in any relationship, romantic or non-romantic. The test on 5 Love Languages is the most widely known test that is found to be relatively accurate for most people. Here is how 5 Love Languages describes their mission/explanation on what the test shows:

You love each other, right? So why does it feel like you’re not on the same page? The most common issue in any relationship is the communication barrier. Everyone experiences love differently, and it’s easy to miss the mark when it comes to showing that you care. With a little help from The 5 Love Languages®, you can learn to identify the root of your conflicts, give and receive love in more meaningful ways, and grow closer than ever. Your Love Language profile will explain your primary love language, what it means, and how you can use it to connect to others. ( taken from https://www.5lovelanguages.com/quizzes/)

First, take the test yourself if you haven’t by clicking on the link above to learn what your top love languages are!

To briefly summarize, the five different love languages include, quality time, words of affirmation, physical touch, gifts, and acts of service. Quality time, which was my top love language, is all about enjoying and valuing the company of a loved one. Words of affirmation are ways to show your love verbally.  They can be compliments and reassurances that show your internal care in an external way. People who need words of affirmation need frequent verbal praise and need to know what the other person is thinking. Physical touch can refer to proximity between you and your loved one, hugging, and more. In closing that barrier between two people, it’s a sign of intimacy. Acts of service may rank high for those who may believe that actions speak louder than words. They can include favors like cleaning and cooking or anything that shows that the person cares about you. Acts of service can be extremely valuable when performed unexpectedly. The final love language is gifts, which is quite self-explanatory, and are also very significant when given with a surprise factor. Gifts don’t necessarily have to be high in monetary value but special in that they mean a lot to your loved one. Whether its notes, flowers, or chocolate, small gifts are seen as tokens of love.

Hopefully you’ve learned a little about what these 5 Love Languages entail and have taken the test to realize how you wish to give or receive love. Personally, I found this test and other similar tests interesting because despite being on a digital platform and not having the same effect as a therapist or counselor, they are very powerful in what they can change and help individuals with their day to day lives.
