Sapporo, the largest city in Hokkaido, Japan (the northern most island of the archipelago). Is gifted with an abundance of snow and winter spirit.
And given Japan’s culture surrounding festivals, you bet that the festivals in Sapporo will have to do with snow.
The Sapporo Snow Festival takes place annually (from Feb 5th – 12th), and consists of the following main attractions:
- Odori Park: A 1.5km long park turned winter wonderland with huge ice sculptures, Hokkaido food specialties, and ice skating rink.
- Susukino: An ice sculpture show and contest! You can ride in these life-like ice sculptures.
- Tsudome: Slides, snow rafts, sledding, and areas for playing in the snow!
