My most favorite genre of shows is sit-coms and a common theme among them all is that the characters live in the same apartment. And now, after a series of fortunate events, I am finally living out my New Girl/How I Met Your Mother/Friends dreams! Living with five other people might sound like a recipe for disaster but it has been quite fun. It definitely took some time getting used to, especially since I grew up as an only child, but my love for our wonderful, lovely, chaotic, and slightly dysfunctional family grows each day. Funnily enough, the main source of stress for me has been whenever we all try cooking together. There’s oil burning in the stove, spices spilling over the counter, and passive aggressive discussions over cutting boards and knife usage. But in the end, the meal always turns out delicious and made with love.
I truly understand why apartment living is such a popular plot line now, as every day is unpredictable and filled with lots of laughter. Today, one of my roommates told me that she was sad about how we all wouldn’t be able to live together next year, and that thought hadn’t even crossed my mind yet. It hasn’t even been a whole month on campus, but I wholeheartedly agreed with her. College is one of the few precious moments in one’s life where all your friends live within walking distance, and I think I should be more aware of this fact throughout the rest of my college experience. Thus, my parting thought to you, dear reader, is to embrace your “wild college years” to go on adventures with your friends and make memories that’ll last you a lifetime!
