At the time I am writing this, tomorrow is election day. As absentee ballots get counted and we painstakingly discover who the next president is, I thought I would remind everyone to indulge in self-care! Emotions will be brewing and swirling. You might feel stressed and overwhelmed. Here are 10 small ways that I like to practice self-care in my daily life:
- Journal! There are few things more freeing than transferring all your thoughts on to a page.
- Eat something sweet! I have a big sweet tooth so any dessert can make me feel better.
- Have a dance party in your bathroom! Brushing my teeth in the morning is a prime dance party opportunity.
- Treat yourself some boba! I genuinely have trouble distinguishing between different boba places so I am thankful for all of the establishments around campus.
- Sing along to your favorite songs! At least once a week, my roommates play some music that we all sing too. It’s probably my most effective stress reliever.
- Make plans with friends! If you haven’t initiated plans with friends, here’s your reminder to do so.
- Put your phone down! We spend enough time staring at screens.
- Read something! Be transported to a world different than the one we’re living in. I’ve been enjoying reading in bed as my first activity of the day.
- Order food! My roommate and I always get excited over spontaneously ordering food. It’s often our reward after a long week.
- Sleep! Sometimes you need to have an early night or a late morning. Let your body reenergize with a good night’s sleep.
